Director | The Kingdom of Rexmonte

Hello Friends! I’m Rebeccah 🙂

I am so over the moon excited to finally be sharing my fantasy comedy epic, The Kingdom of Rexmonte!

Funny enough, this story actually began as a completely different genre in a completely setting. However, from the beginning, the script has centered around the same family and the same themes. I spent six years developing the characters and their varying dynamics, dysfunctions, and dramas, and while I ultimately enjoyed the script I ended up with, there was just something missing. It was not the movie I was dying to make.

It did not take long to realize I needed to follow my instincts and refer back to what made me love filmmaking so much in the first place, from my earliest memories of being force fed the Turner Classic Movie channel by my mom. By learning the basics of classic cinema at such a young age, I quickly become even more fascinated by the scale and filmmaking process of “the blockbuster.” Nine year old me couldn’t get my hands on enough Star Wars behind-the-scenes books. From there it was only natural I become absolutely engulfed in the worlds of Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. The Charles Foster Kane to Jon Snow pipeline is one I’m sure we all relate to.

By allowing myself to recenter back to my inner child and these life long inspirations, the path forward became obvious. I realized I needed to put my characters into a world of their own, and from then on there was nothing anyone could do to stop me from making this film.

To me, fantasy should be big and bold and take you on an adventure, into something unknown. Yes! But lest we not forget that cinema should also be intimate and real in the quiet moments in between. As a writer/director, I knew I needed to be able to connect to my script and fall in love with my characters beyond all the fun fantasy elements. It was a huge part of my writing process to navigate this balance the same way we navigate real life. One day we’re galloping on a horse through a field in the sunshine, and the next day our horse is stolen by forest goblins. Such is life, and such is the wonderful genre of fantasy.

And so, my new friends, at last I present to you a story about my life, my family, my spirituality, and the tumultuous journey it’s been to get to this point today. And hopefully all of that is disguised by the whimsical world I will whisk you away into.

Welcome to Rexmonte.
Travel safely, and let a new era of fantasy begin.

Twinkles and sprinkles,
Rebeccah Crabtree
